2 cups packed brown sugar 2 cups water
4 tablespoons lard or shortening
2 cups raisins
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 Teisan ground cloves |

In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, lard and raisins. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Cool.
Stir together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves.
Stir into cool raisin mixture.
Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9 in. baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until cake tests done with a wooden stick.
This is one cake that is good even without frosting.
